At this talk, Scott will focus on how to plan your winter, spring, and summer training so that you can be at your best for your summer event of choice.  Come prepared by having the date of your "A" event, a paper calendar of sorts and something to write with. This event will be held at Chamber of Commerce Board Room, 175 George St. N. on Thursday December 10th 6:30pm-8:00pm.

NORDIC SKIING
Glide And Grip Wax Clinics

What is Glide wax?
Why are my skis so slow?
How do I properly maintain my skis?
Is there a different wax for the different temperatures?
How often should I wax my skis?
What if I don't have a waxing iron?

This clinic is open to anyone who wants to know more about the process of waxing skate skis. Bring your skis and we will help you wax them.

Learn To Ski (Skate And Classic)
Nordic Ski Clinics for classic and skate techniques will be offered at Kawartha Nordic Ski Club on January 17th, 24th and 31st. Classic Ski Techniques clinics are scheduled for 10:30am and the Skate Ski Clinics are scheduled for 1:30pm; both clinics will run for 1.5 hours.

Please note that the Classic and Skate Ski Clinics for January 31st are intended for the intermediate to advanced skier. The costs of these clinics are a $25.00 donation to Kawartha Nordic due at the time of signing up.

SNOWSHOE MONTH: HIKES AND DEMO
"To snowshoe in the most beautiful winter surroundings gives the body and soul tremendous well-being. The simplicity of practicing this sport makes it the easiest of all winter sports, because if you can walk, you can snowshoe." (GV Snowshoes).

There will be a snowshoe demonstration hike scheduled for January 16th at the Trent University Bird Sanctuary on University Road, Peterborough Ontario. This demonstration day is intended for any person(s) interested in the sport of snowshoeing or having problems deciding which snowshoe best suit their outdoor pursuits. There is no cost to register for this event, which can be completed at Wild Rock Outfitters during regular store hours.

Wild Rock has also declared February to be Snowshoe Month, where we will be hosting a weekly series of hikes every Saturday. Keep an eye on the newsletter for dates and details.

Snow Kiting

Ocean Rodeo Rise KiteHere at Wild Rock we are always trying to find new and exciting sports that take us out to play.  We try and look for sports that are in keeping with Wild Rock's non-motorized toys.

Kite boarding in snow is a relatively new sport that has been slowly growing over the years in popularity. Two years ago, Kite boarding was portrayed as a fast, fringe sport at the Banff Mountain Film Festival.  More widely known for it's use in warmer climes, kites have been used to pull people around in the water while they are strapped to a relatively short, floating board. The only difference with snow kiting is that you are using a snowboard or skiis to stay, "afloat" on snow. And, unlike wake boarding, the wind is your engine and that's mostly free. No need to fill up at the local gas bar to enjoy snow kiting except to get to your destination. Or, if you live within walking distance of any frozen lake or snowy open field, you can leave the car at home.

SnowkitingSo, if you already have a snowboard or skis and are looking for an alternative to driving to that local ski hill that you have been to a million times, Kite Boarding might be your bag baby. Of course, due to the nature of this sport, Wild Rock will strongly recommend taking lessons before you go out on your own.  Yes, you might get air borne in this sport and it pays to be prepared to reduce the risk of injury. Keep an eye on the newsletter for news of lessons.

Wild Rock will be stocking a selection of kites and harnesses as well as our regular selection of snowboards for our customers needs. We invite you to come down and have a look, ask some questions and see if this sport is for you. There will be lessons available, look for details here or at the store. See you soon.

Like the team and the brand, Forum's flagship board has been killing it since forever. Each year the Destroyer is the one caught slaying street rails, stomping new tricks and ruling monster transitions. This season experience how sick this board is on boxes, rails and features, but the serial art has surely evolved from an earlier darkness.

CHILLYDOG WITH POP
We took the award-winning ChillyDog Continuous Rocker and added special Pop zones in the nose and tail. This means the same forgiving yet stable feel of Continuous Rocker, but with even more ollie pop. The pop zones run from just outside of your stance to just inside of your traditional contact points and deliver increased surface area that can be used to load up the nose and tail = more ollie power.

Platypus Platypreserve

Platypreserve Extend the life of your wine...anywhere

Our camping buyer, Briar, has organized a cool event in December. She will put a bottle of wine in a Platypreserve on December 1st and leave it there until the 22nd. We will then have a tasting with the wine in the platypreserve and from a bottle and see if they taste the same!
