Why do we partner with Kawartha Land Trust?
Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) is the only non-government charitable organization committed to protecting land, conserving the natural environment and enhancing the quality of life in the Kawarthas. They currently protect 22 properties comprising more than 4,700 acres of important, diverse types of land. On some of these diverse natural properties are trails open for the public to get out and connect with nature!
With the community's support, the Kawartha Land Trust continues to secure and manage sensitive natural areas in the Kawarthas. There are a variety of ways you can help KLT protect and preserve land in the Kawarthas forever. Whether it’s through a single or monthly donation, planned gift or gift of land, or with a gift of time by joining our team of volunteers, you can help to protect the land you love! To learn more or to donate to KLT, please visit kawarthalandtrust.org/you-can-help.
Last year, Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) undertook a special campaign to buy this property south of Burleigh Falls. This is the first time KLT has purchased a property as all other properties have been donated. Community support and enthusiasm for this project enabled them to achieve their fundraising goal and buy the property before the end of 2020! The property is named after long-time Stony Lake community member Christie Bentham in recognition of the legacy gift she left for KLT.
The 137-acre property features over 1,200 feet of natural, undisturbed waterfront on Clear Lake. The property has beautiful walking trails that are well known in the community and are open to the public. Learn more about the Christie Bentham Wetland at kawarthalandtrust.org.
