Fed up with packed and noisy trails? Try exploring the forest at night! Join us for a hike through Ken Reid Conservation Area on Sunday, February 27th, 2022. Together, we’ll meander through cedar stands, over creeks and wetlands, and towards lookouts of Sturgeon Lake. Stargazing and animal sightings are possible. Adventure and fun are guaranteed. Bring your pal(s) and enjoy some Vitamin N!

For this event, Yaktrax or other traction devices are recommended but hiking boots or winter boots are welcome. Snowshoe rentals will be provided for free for participants.

Please bring:

  • Mask*
  • Traction devices such as Yaktrax or snowshoes (snowshoe rentals will be provided for free).
  • Solid footwear such as winter boots or hiking boots.
  • Clothing suitable for day-of weather conditions.
  • Headlamp or flashlight.

*Face shields do NOT count as a substitute. Please wear an approved absorbent mask which covers nose, mouth, and chin. If you are not sure if your face covering passes, please see this Peterborough Public Health guideline: Non-Medical Masks/Face Coverings

Due to insurance purposes, this event is open to participants aged 18 and over. All participants must sign a waiver and undergo a COVID screening prior to the event. 

About Kawartha Conservation

Kawartha Conservation is a watershed-based, non-profit organization established in 1979 by the municipalities within our watershed under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are one of 36 conservation authorities operating in Ontario and a member of Conservation Ontario.

 Balancing environmental capacity and human need, we manage natural resource features that are essential for sustaining water quality and quantity, through watershed planning, stewardship, environmental monitoring and research, and management of conservation and natural areas.

About Ken Reid Conservation Area

Located just outside beautiful Lindsay, ON, Ken Reid Conservation Area is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers and birders alike. The land was acquired by Kawartha Conservation in 1981 using a grant from the Nature Conservancy of Canada and further developed into a recreational and conservation area using a grant from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Today, Ken Reid is managed by Kawartha Conservation staff who maintains several facilities, including a playground, washrooms, accessible trails and an off-leash dog park. They also host a number of programs at the park, such as day camps and outdoor classrooms. More than 10 kilometers of diverse trails meander through Ken Reid.
