Staff Tested: Matt Takes the Cloudrock Trek WP for a Spin

Lightweight. Grippy. Surprisingly tough.
We love putting gear to the test—especially when it means getting outside. This spring, we handed a pair of On Running’s Cloudrock Trek WP boots to Matt, one of our senior service techs, to see how they perform in real trail conditions.
If you’ve visited the Wild Rock service centre, you probably know Matt already—he’s one of the friendly faces you’ll find behind a workbench, tuning bikes and solving problems. But when he’s not fixing flats or torquing bolts, you’ll find him outdoors: hiking, riding, climbing, or sailing.
We asked Matt to share how the Cloudrock boots have held up this season. Here’s what he had to say.
Meet Matt
What outdoor activities do you do?
I ride BMX, mountain bikes and dirt bikes. You can also catch me sailing and rock climbing in my free time.
Tell me about your job at Wild Rock.
I am a Senior Technician in the service center at Wild Rock. Come see me with your bike problems!
What’s your favourite thing about working at Wild Rock?
Having the opportunity to work on cool bikes for cool people!
Trail Testing the Cloudrock Trek WP
Where have these boots taken you so far this spring?
Not too many places yet. So far I have done some hiking in the Madawaska Valley and Jacksons Park, but I look forward to getting out with them more.
What made you want to try these boots?
"I noticed how light they are for a trekking boot and when I tried them on I knew they were the right boots for me."
First impressions — how’d they feel right out of the box?
"Amazing! The fit and feel are unlike anything I have had, plus they look great!"
How have they held up when you've been using them?
"So far the boots have held up great. I was surprised at how durable they are for such a lightweight boot."
Any features you didn’t expect to care about, but now do?
"The sole at first glance did not appear as aggressive as my previous boots, but upon testing I was surprised with the traction provided."
How do they compare to boots you’ve worn in the past?
"Great! The stiff sole has been much better for the kinds of hikes I do in comparison to the boots I had."
Who would you recommend these boots to?
"I would recommend them to anyone doing longer hikes on more advanced terrain."
What would be your sales pitch to someone thinking about these hiking boots?
"My sales pitch would be 'just try them on for 5 minutes, you won't want to take them off."
