Your $200 Can Go Further—Here’s How

The Ontario government just sent out $3 billion in rebate cheques—$200 per taxpayer and child. Officially, the goal is to “support families… at a time when the cost of living remains stubbornly high.”
For some Ontarians, that $200 will help with essentials. If that’s you, we hope it provides some relief.
But for many, this rebate won’t change much. And here’s the thing: $3 billion in tax dollars just went out the door, with no plan to invest it in the public good.
That’s where you come in.
What if you could decide where your tax dollars go?
How often do we hear people say, “They should fund this.” or “The government should invest in that.”
Well—now’s your chance to take control. If that $200 isn’t critical to your daily life, you can put it to work exactly where you think it should go.
A non-partisan initiative, 200dollars.ca, is encouraging Ontarians to donate their rebate to causes that need it most. Where you give is entirely up to you, but the goal is simple: if this money won’t change your life, pass it on to someone whose life it will change.
Passion or Compassion—Where Do You Want to Give?
The ComPassion Project supports two key areas of giving:
1. Compassion – Supporting Those Who Need It Most
If you believe in building a stronger, more equitable community, direct your $200 toward organizations working on housing, addiction, and food security in Peterborough.
2. Passion – Protecting the Places We Play
If you’re passionate about the outdoors, consider donating to organizations that protect natural spaces, advocate for conservation, and ensure we all have access to wild places.
The ComPassion Project helps fund local groups working in both areas—because where we play and who we play with both matter. If you’re looking for a way to give, we’d love to help steward your donation toward a cause that aligns with your values.
Make an Impact
If you already have a cause in mind, go for it—every dollar counts. If you need a place to start, here are two ways to take action right now:
1️⃣ Donate through the ComPassion Project – Support organizations that protect the places we play or work to build a stronger, more equitable community. Learn more and give here.
2️⃣ Learn more about the movement – See how Ontarians are coming together to make these rebate dollars count: 200dollars.ca
If enough of us reclaim even a fraction of that $3 billion, we can make real change—together.
Will you pass it on?
